A public hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, Dec. 21, during the Plumas County Board of Supervisors meeting on a proposed fee increase for collection and disposal of solid waste in some areas of the county. If adopted, fees for residential and commercial customers would increase 7.29 percent beginning Dec. 21.
The increase would impact customers served by Feather River Disposal — but does not include those in the Chester Public Utilities District, nor the Quincy Community Services District. Those entities have separate contracts with the solid waste company. Nor would the fee increase impact those who use the transfer stations — the Board of Supervisors approved those fee increases this past summer. This also does not impact the customers of Intermountain Disposal.
Feather River Disposal mailed notices of the public hearing to 2,744 customer who would be impacted at the end of October. Six written protests were received. Tomorrow’s public hearing is the next step in the process.
An example of some of the cost increases are as follows: the monthly cost of a 64-gallon waste-wheeler would increase from $29.92 to $32.10; an extra white trash bag would go from $2.09 to $2.26; a commercial 1-cubic-yard bin with once-a-week pickup would go from $85.36 to $91.58.
