COVENTRY: An employee of a Manchester Road business reported he arrived at work Sept. 3 to find the front window had been smashed, shelves had been ransacked and numerous cellphones had been stolen. Employees of a Manchester Road store reported Sept. 7 a man filled two large trash bags with $1,000 in merchandise the previous day and left without paying for it. Also on Sept. 7, Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated a break-in at a Portage Lakes Drive site after someone entered a garage and stole an antique Coca-Cola machine and a model airplane. Also, a ladder and boat were stolen from the backyard. A Pleasant Valley Drive couple reported Sept. 7 they confronted a man who was fishing on their property and he pepper-sprayed them in the face and the inside of their car. He was gone when deputies arrived, and the victims were treated by EMS. Deputies investigated the theft of catalytic converters from vehicles outside a Surfside Drive residence Sept. 7 and outside a Waterside Drive residence Sept. 14. Employees of a Manchester Road business reported Sept. 7 a white man with a red beard who was dressed in black stole merchandise and fled in a white Nissan Altima with tinted windows. Two white men reportedly stole items from the chain’s Green store Sept. 11 and fled in a similar car. On Sept. 9, deputies were called to a South Main Street club and were asked to advise a man he could not be there unless he was a member or a guest of a member. A woman reported five bags of groceries worth $563 were stolen from her vehicle while it was parked in a Manchester Road plaza Sept. 13 between 12:30 and 1 p.m.

GREEN: A Prestwick Drive man reported Sept. 5 money, a cellphone and a firearm were stolen from his vehicle the previous night. On Sept. 6, Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a Lauby Road parking lot after a man reported a woman broke the window of his vehicle. Deputies were reviewing video surveillance of the incident. Deputies reviewed video surveillance for an investigation into the theft of wiring from a South Main Street business Sept. 6. A neighbor of an East Turkeyfoot Lake Road residence reported seeing a man steal a lawn mower from the property and put it in his pickup truck Sept. 6. Deputies found the lawn mower in the truck and charged the Safer Plaza man with theft. Deputies investigated the theft of catalytic converters from vehicles Sept. 8, when a license plate was also stolen from a vehicle, at a South Arlington Road business; Sept. 10 from a pickup truck at on East Nimisila Road; and Sept. 14 from two vehicles at a South Arlington Road business. A Mayfair Road woman reported Sept. 9 she allowed two men to stay at her apartment and they refused to leave. The property manager told deputies he wanted them out because they were not on the lease. Deputies advised the Kent man and Pauline Avenue man not to return or they could be charged with trespassing. Deputies investigated reports of theft and forgery involving checks mailed from a U.S Postal Service box on Massillon Road Sept. 10, when a woman reported her check, written for $1,239, was altered and cashed for $9,239; and Sept. 15, when a woman reported her check for $30 was cashed for $4,800. On Sept. 10, an Eagle Drive woman reported her phone was stolen from the top of her mailbox. An Amberly Drive man reported Sept. 10 that $5,000 cash was stolen from an unlocked vehicle outside his residence the previous night. Deputies investigated the burglary of a Royal County Down Drive residence Sept. 11 after a woman reported a safe containing money was stolen from under her bed. An employee of an Arlington Ridge Road store reported Sept. 11 a man stole a shaver and hair clippers totaling $300 and fled on foot. Deputies determined a vehicle in the Daisy Avenue area Sept. 11 had been stolen, went to a Sewell Avenue residence where it was parked and talked to a man who fit the description of the driver. The Canton man admitted driving the vehicle and stated he borrowed it and did not have the key. Deputies arrested him for receiving stolen property and took him to the Summit County Jail. The key was located in the cruiser that transported him, according to the report. Deputies investigated the theft from two vehicles in a parking lot on Massillon Road, where the windows of the vehicles were smashed Sept. 11 between 3:30 and 4:20 p.m. and backpacks containing electronic items were stolen from both. Employees of a Massillon Road business reported Sept. 11 two white men stole $360 in items and fled in a white Nissan Altima. A Moore Road woman reported Sept. 12 someone in a dark-colored SUV followed her home and parked in her driveway for several minutes. A Bobwhite Trail man reported Sept. 15 someone opened a credit account in his name.

LAKEMORE: A person reported a bicycle stolen from a Canton Road store Sept. 12. Police arrested a Lessig Avenue man on an outstanding warrant Sept. 13 following a tip from a caller regarding the man’s whereabouts. A Hite Street juvenile male was arrested Sept. 16 at a Springfield High School varsity football game for possession of a 9-millimeter handgun, obstructing official business and resisting arrest. An officer working security at a home football game saw the male wearing a mask and a hoodie as he walked around the field. Parents also told them they were concerned about the male. He and several others with him reportedly tried to flee when police approached. In a separate police report, a cellphone found at the scene was turned in to police. A South Street woman called police Sept. 19 and claimed an unknown substance was placed on a garlic plant, which caused her to become ill and go to the hospital.

NEW FRANKLIN: Police responded to a Taylor Road incident Sept. 14 for a report of a stolen catalytic converter Sept. 11-14. A Youngstown woman was pulled over on Southcrest Drive and cited for driving under suspension and driving outside marked lanes Sept. 15. Police are investigating a Barrymore Avenue incident Sept. 16 after a caller reported the latch on her gate was damaged and security surveillance showed another resident of the home entering and leaving the property and taking unknown items with him. The caller said she believes the man also went through the residence, which he has access to. Police called to an incident at a West Turkeyfoot Lake Road residence Sept. 17 found damage to a detached garage door and frame.

SPRINGFIELD: Police and members of the Metro SWAT Team executed a warrant at a Coach Lane home Aug. 12 and found large amounts of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Trace amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana as well as a plastic bag containing an unknown gel-like substance were also found. Persons at the house during the raid gave police information about a man believed to be trafficking drugs out of the home. Representatives from a Rhoadesdale Avenue construction company reported an equipment trailer, skid steer and other equipment were stolen from a fenced parking lot Aug. 19-21. The person also attempted to steal a dump truck on the property. A Cuyahoga Falls woman was pulled over for marked lane violations Aug. 21 after leaving a South Arlington Road store parking lot. Police found she had an active warrant out of the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department and she was turned over to them. A passenger in the car, a Cuyahoga Falls man, was found with $183 worth of merchandise stolen from the store and was arrested for theft. Also Aug. 21, police located a resident of a Pontius Road group home after receiving a report that the resident had run away from the home earlier in the day. The resident was evaluated and taken to an area hospital by EMS. Police pulled over a Hancock Avenue woman during the early morning hours of Aug. 21 for driving with no headlights. The driver and one of his two passengers had suspended licenses but a third passenger was a valid driver. An opened bottle of liquor, 20 grams of marijuana, a loaded handgun and a loaded ammunition magazine were found inside the car. The car was towed and the driver was cited for driving under suspension and possession of marijuana. One of the passengers, an Orrville man, was arrested for improper handling of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon and taken to the Summit County Jail. The daughter of a recently deceased Beach Drive man reported Aug. 22 her father’s credit card was stolen and used to make more than $1,500 in purchases and bank withdrawals. Also Aug. 22, police seized clothing, a box of 100 diabetic needles and a torch found near community baseball fields on Abington Road Aug. 22. Police responded to an East Waterloo Road business Aug. 22 for a report of someone trying to fill a fraudulent prescription. Pharmacy employees said the two prescriptions were filled out under the same person’s name and the person never came to pick them up. Police went to the Samuel Road address on the prescription but found a vacant house. Police were called to a South Arlington Road store Aug. 22 for a man who reportedly ate food off the floor and then refused to pay for it. Police searched the Willowview Drive man and found him with $15 worth of stolen merchandise and a sandwich inside his pants. He was taken to the jail on an outstanding parole violation warrant. A Killian Road resident reported his mailbox was destroyed some time between Aug. 22-23 and he told police this was the second time this has happened in two weeks. A Howard Avenue woman called police Aug. 23 about paying a carpet installer $1,000 cash and $1,500 by check on Aug. 18. She said the installer never began the work and she has been unable to reach him. Also Aug. 23, a driver was pulled over for driving with no taillights. A hypodermic needle was found in the Lagoon Street man’s pocket and officers discovered he had a suspended license and a previous charge for possession of drug abuse instruments. He was cited for driving under suspension and possession of the hypodermic needle. Police were flagged down by a group of people in a South Arlington Road parking lot Aug. 23 for a woman suspected of overdosing. Officers found the woman conscious and communicative, but unable to stand without stumbling. The woman was taken to a hospital and an unknown powder found inside her cigarette pack was sent to a lab for drug testing, with criminal charges pending the results. Police stopped a driver for having a burned out headlight Aug. 23 and found 10 grams of marijuana inside the car. She was given a warning for the headlight and the marijuana was confiscated. Police pulled over a driver for a traffic violation Aug. 24 and found a passenger with a tool kit that had been reported stolen from a nearby store. The Ashland man was also found to have a warrant out of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. Store security provided police with video surveillance of the man stealing the tool kit and he was arrested for theft and turned over to a deputy on the warrant.
